In this episode of the podcast, the guest is Laurie Sudbrink, an expert in leading with GRIT. Laurie is the president and founder of Unlimited Coaching Solutions, a training business that specializes in improving workplace performance. She has helped fortune 500 companies get their act together and is the bestselling author of Leading with GRIT: Inspiring Action and Accountability with Generosity, Respect, Integrity, and Truth.

Laurie shares her leadership journey, which began over 15 years ago when she worked for a major company that eventually filed for bankruptcy. She witnessed weak leadership and communication breakdowns, which inspired her to launch her own training business. Laurie’s personal tragedy, the loss of her daughter, has also impacted her leadership style. She emphasizes the importance of connecting authentically with your people and being emotionally intelligent and empathetic.

Laurie’s book, Leading with GRIT, focuses on the acronym G.R.I.T, which stands for Generosity, Respect, Integrity, and Truth. These are the four principles that she believes are essential to leading with grit. She explains that generosity is not just about giving, but also about being generous with your time and attention. Respect is about valuing everyone’s contributions, regardless of their position. Integrity is about being honest and transparent, and Truth is about being willing to acknowledge and address difficult issues.

Laurie also shares ideas on how to make employees engaged, including creating a positive work environment, recognizing and celebrating achievements, and providing opportunities for growth and development. She emphasizes the importance of being fearless in vulnerability and creating a safe space for people to share their thoughts and ideas.

In the end, Laurie’s message is clear: leadership is not just about getting results, but it’s also about making a positive impact on people’s lives. By leading with GRIT, leaders can inspire action and accountability, and create a workplace culture that values generosity, respect, integrity, and truth.
